A lovely superfast Summicron for your delectation! This is a lovely lens. I'm a big fan of the Summicron and have used various versions on various bodies. This is one of those rare lenses which can make photography effortless, it looks as simple as it is to use, designed and built by studious Germans with sliderules and visors, you have to wonder how so many modern lenses can be such a faff by comparison. As with all Leica kit, this lovely thing feels as if it is hewn from solid rock.

This particular example is amazingly, 64 years old, produced in 1955, Making it one of the very first of this illustrious line. It remains perfectly usable on either your Vintage or modern day digital, such as a Panasonic G/GF/GH/GX series, Olympus PENs and OMDs, Samsung NX or Sony NEX body, They are particularly sought after by owners of the fabulous new Full frame Sony A7/A9 range. The nickel/chrome finish is not damaged in any way, there are no scratches or other damage at all as far as I can see. All the barrel markings are present and enjoy even and stark contrast, while the focus ring is smooth and well damped and features the ubiquitous infinity lock, the aperture ring is stepless, so can be set between stops for those who demand the greatest control. It moves every bit a smoothly as it should.

The near perfect circular aperture for which this model is famous, is composed by a staggering 10 blinds and in operation is as smooth as silk. There is no rust or oil on the blades. Even the finish to the blinds, which is usually very well worn on lenses of this age, looks to have had a pretty easy life. Optics are good, with just a couple of marks. There is no internal dust visible holding the lens up to daylight.

The lens will be supplied as pictured, with its original Leica caps ready to get to work! So there you have it, a very rare and highly appointed, antique Leica lens, which as you can see is in excellent condition, and ready to stride through another sixty odd years!
