Zeiss HS Superspeed B-Speed 50mm T1.4 Arri PL mount

  

A rare Zeiss Superspeed (B-speed) 50mm T1.4 (PL mount) which covers Super 35mm/APS-C sensor size. This is a Zeiss superspeed lens as far as the optics are concerned. Commonly known as a B-Speed (it is the Arri B or bayonet mount with a PL adapter), it is the basically the same fast optics as a Superspeed, but with earlier housings (a shorter focus travel) and a triangular iris. Of course, if you are using it wide open the shape of the iris is not as important. Many people have noticed that Superspeeds are a really good match for digital cameras.

So if you dont need a full set or the long focus travel, you could get a Superspeed lens at a great price some directors have made a whole movie with just a 50mm! Glass is good condition for age, no major marks, scratches, haze. May be a fraction of dust particles in normal fashion. Metal exterior has usual wear for age as well as marks where gear ring has been attached.

Mechanics good for age with smooth iris and focus. Used by Stanley Kubrick for Full Metal Jacket, these lenses have not changed much optically over the years, and for low light situations are the go-to lenses. Jeorge comments that these cut well with the later Superspeeds and there is no difference in sharpness.

Just to note, Arri and Zeiss never used the term "Superspeed" until recently. These were always Zeiss HS (High Speed) lenses. The triangular iris was to allow light to still pass through from all parts of the lens when stopped down. Focus markings are in imperial and metric and rotation is around 170 degrees.
