LEICA ELMARIT-M 135mm f2.8 - EXCELLENT! LEICA ELMARIT-M 11829 135mm f2.8 - 1966 - EXCELLENT! An excellent 1966 example of this classic Leica telephoto! This is a truly lovely lens.

A much loved and VERY desirable lens, famed as the last lens designed by the legendary Walter Mandler. This lens lends itself to many genres, either on its native Leica M, but also Micro Four Thirds bodies, such as the Panasonic G series and Olympus PENs and the Sony NEX range, even the fabulous full frame Sony A7/A9 as well as the newer full frame offerings from Nikon, Canon and Panasonic. Age is currently 56 years, going by the serial number; 2223588, this gorgeous Elmarit was produced late on in 1966. Amazingly, this particular lens shows little sign of the passage of six decades and as with all the best Leica kit, it still feels as if hewn from solid rock. All barrel script is present and enjoys even and stark contrast as you can see, while the mount ring shows no signs of wear at all.

The focus ring turns easily while the fore mounted aperture ring runs smoothly, dropping into each stop with complete confidence. The aperture is as smooth as silk, and there is absolutely no sign of fungus, rust or oil at all. The built in hood pulls out with just the right amount of resistance and stays in place with confidence.

The unique multicoated optics are clear, with no sign of scratches or cleaning marks and just a couple of tiny motes of dust visible when when held up to the daylight. The dust visible in the photos was shown up by my lighting setup and has since been largely removed.

As with all vintage Leica glass, this lens defies its age, it remains fully functional and is great fun to use. Most importantly, it produces great images. 90mm is nominally a Portrait lens, but you can just as easily use it as a compact Telephoto as I have.

The lens will be supplied as per the photos, with caps, ready to get to work immediately! So there you have it, a gorgeous example of this classic Leica lens, offered in excellent condition, despite it's near pensionable status. Built in a way which is frankly beyond modern understanding, looked after well this lens will easily last another four decades and being Leica, when you, your children or grandchildren come to sell it on, you will like as not achieve much more for it than you paid here.
