Leica Leitz screw-mount L39 Summaron 35mm f3.5 22 lens with accessories

  
Friends, this is a relist... Three filters - a Leitz clamp-on UV filter, a Kodak ND filter in a slip-on Series V holder, and a Series V Kodak yellow - accompany this lens, as do a Walz slip-on 32mm hood, a Leica lens cap, and an aftermarket rear cap. The body of the lens is in excellent condition. The controls operate well, including the aperture control and the (perhaps slightly stiffer) focus. The aperture blades are clean. There is a visible scratch in the metal along near one of the outer element removal marks that doesn't extend to the glass. Some of the paint on the outside of the lens mount has buffed away. Let's talk about lenses. I think that this is a pretty good lens. Not brand new, and not ruined, either. As you can see from the images, there is some dust on the second internal element, and there is perhaps a whisper of edge separation in the back, but otherwise the glass is pretty clean and clear. It's a nice, user's lens, no more, no less. The serial number is 706497, putting the date of manufacture in 1949. Find the images taken with this lens at Auschwitz-Birkenau Concentration Camp and at the Wannsee Palace outside of Berlin using a Canon P rangefinder and both using, I think, Rollei ASA 25 RPX. These were the foci of the project, which was highly personal and thoughtful in preparation. Know that this kind of a lens is a gem in its efficient and compact beauty, but it is 70 years old and would benefit with eventual internal cleaning by a knowledgable professional, and there are small faults as illustrated above.
